Ebitimi Ogbomah, legislative aide to the lawmaker representing Bomadi/Patani
Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representative, Hon. Mutu Ebomo,
has debunked reports that he nominated ghost names for the amnesty program.
In a statement on Thursday, the lawmaker clarified that there are two
committees in the House of Representatives, responsible for the oversight of
Niger Delta affairs/issues, which are the committee on Niger Delta Development
Commission, NDDC and the Committee on Niger Delta.
Ogbomah pointed that he was only chairman of the committee on NDDC,
responsible for the oversight of the agency, adding that he had nothing to do
with the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Amnesty program, which was under the
oversight jurisdiction of the Committee on Niger Delta.
The statement read: “The Office of Hon. Mutu Ebomo wishes to clear the air
on the rumour making the rounds that the member representing Bomadi/Patani
Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representative ghost names for the
amnesty program.
“We wish to clarify that there are two committees in the House of
Representatives responsible for the oversight of Niger Delta affairs/issues,
and they are the committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the
Committee on Niger Delta.
“The committee on NDDC which was chaired by Hon. Mutu Ebomo was responsible
for the oversight of the NDDC and it had nothing to do with the ministry of
Niger Delta and the Amnesty program.
“While the committee on Niger Delta oversights the ministry of Niger Delta
and the amnesty program. It’s apt to state further that Hon. Mutu Nicholas has
never been given any slot or nomination in the amnesty program by either the
office of the SA on amnesty program or any other person and as such his
constituents have never benefited from the amnesty program through him.
“It’s also apt to clarify that Hon. Ebomo is known for his generosity and as
such if given slots or nominations for the amnesty programme, he will never
hesitate to give it out to his constituents. This clarification becomes
necessary as a result of the unfounded lies being circulated concerning the
purported ghost names in the amnesty programme.”
