The
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, said it
would deploy 2,000 of his men in Dutse and other parts of the state to ensure
safety during and after the Yuletide.
Malam
Muhammad Gidado, NSCDC Commandant in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) on Friday in Dutse.
“As
part of our plans to ensure a hitch-free Yuletide as well as to ensure security,
before, during and after the Christmas celebration in Jigawa, we plan to deploy
about 2,000 special officers which will comprise special armed squad and
counter terrorism squad.
“Also
officers in the Anti-riot Squad, Bomb Detection and Disposal Unit, Intelligence
and Detective Unit as well as Rescue and Medical Team will be deployed to all
the towns in the state,” he said.
He
said the officers would be stationed at strategic locations such as churches,
children’s parks and other dark spots.
The
commandant further said others would be stationed in other parts of the state
for crowd control.
Gidado,
therefore, advised people to cooperate with all security personnel so that the
state could enjoy a peaceful celebration.
He
urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the
nearest security formation within their localities.
“On
this note, the corps enjoins the public to go about their normal activities and
report any suspicious movements to the law enforcement agencies’ offices nearest
to them.
“The
command also wishes the good people of Jigawa a happy and blessed Christmas
celebration in advance,” he said.
