The
Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has congratulated the Deputy
Comptroller and new Commandant of Nigeria Prisons Armed Squad School, Owerri,
Imo State, Mr. Obiako Nicholas, on his new appointment.
The
Deputy Governor made this remark when the new Commandant paid a courtesy visit
to the office of the Deputy Governor earlier today.
Prince
Madumere commended Mr. Obiako for his perseverance, professionalism and knack
for excellence, which has led him to his present status as the Deputy
Comptroller General of Nigeria prisons and the Commandant of the Armed Squad
School, the post he is the first indigene of the State if not the entire South
East to hold.
He
used the opportunity to commend them for their effort in ensuring that the men
and women who went through their tutelage are nationally and globally respected
for their professional sense of duty and strategy. He attributed the presence
of the school in Owerri as one of the strategic reasons Owerri Prisons has
remained one of the calm prison facility that has not had any sad experience of
jail break, which he said could be unimaginably unpalatable given its location
at the hearts of the capital territory.
The
number two citizen of the State while narrating his ordeal during his
incarceration on trumped up charges on the eve of 2011 elections decried the condition
of the prison facilities due to its lack of capacity as discomforting and therefore
assured the Commandant and his team of Imo State Government’s continual cordial
relationship and support to the School and Nigeria Prisons in general,
promising to inform the Governor about their visit while disclosing that Imo
people in their tradition will celebrate the new Commandant.
Speaking
earlier on the purpose of his visit, DCP, Obiako said he had come to formally
present himself as the New Commandant of the school and to urge the Owelle
Rochas Okorocha led Administration to accord him the same support it has always
accorded the Nigeria Prisons in Imo State.
Assuring
the Deputy Governor of the school’s readiness to give the government strategic support
it requires from her, Abiako remarked that he is not new in Owerri but has been
promoted to his present status and therefore will work as an experienced
Commandant who knows his environment.
