Governor Okorocha has congratulated the immediate
past Comptroller General of Nigerian Prisons Service, Mr. Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu
as he retires after twenty-five years of meritorious service to his father
land.
Governor Okrocha made this remark yesterday at the
Headquarters of Nigerian Prisons Service, Abuja through his Deputy, Prince Eze
Madumere who represented him during the Pulling-Out parade in honour of the
former Comptroller General.
Prince Madumere stated immediately after the
ceremony that ‘‘it is a policy of Imo State Government to identify and
celebrate Imo sons and daughters who had excelled in their chosen professions,
which he said Ekpendu represents, to spur the younger generation to appreciate
and work hard towards achieving excellence and forthrightness in
service’’.
Eulogizing Ekependu for his accomplishments
within the period he served with the Nigerian Prisons Service,
he described him as an illustrious son of Imo State and a goal
getter whose appointment came at a time the Prisons Service had challenges but
was able to weather the storm and returned the Service to its glory path.
He therefore called on other officers coming after
him to borrow a leaf from him and work harder to surpass his achievements while
in the office.
He encouraged Dr. Ekpendu whose 60th birthday
coincided with his retirement ceremony to make himself available whenever he is
called upon to contribute to the development of the Nation and Imo State, from
his wealth of experience, saying he is still young and has so much
to offer.
