Willie Obiano, Gov. of Anambra State. |
As the governorship elections in Anambra State is fast drawing
close, the major players are seriously campaigning and strategizing on how to
win the seat especially those of the two major opposition parties in the state,
The People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC which
is the political party in-charge at the national level of government.
Truth is, I am finding it a bid difficult to agree that the
current governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano hasn’t done well as governor
in the last FOUR YEARS and I wish anybody can show me evidence that his
performance is poor and I will show the same person why we shouldn’t have voted
in the way we all did in 2015, so, if performance is measured purely on merit
and not on the pedestal of political parties trying to win election by bad-mouthing
incumbents, then Willie Obiano is a saint.
Imagine the governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and
his Kogi State counterpart, Yahaya Bello going to Anambra to ask Anambarians to
vote out Willie Obiano who is not owing WORKERS SALARIES and Pensioner’s
PENSIONS and vote a member of their party, Dr. Tony Nwonye who would have the
two of them as ROLE MODELS in the area of prompt payment of salaries and pensions,
WAHALA GO DEY?
These three reasons though are the major amongst others why
Obiano will win hands-down all other candidates and these are:
1. The
political sentiments attached to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA as a
political party with its roots from the Biafran warlord, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu
Ojukwu. Anambarians are known to hold Ojukwu at very high esteem and with his
darling wife, Bianca Ojukwu on the campaign train of Willie Obiano, it will be
tough to win the APGA/Willie Obiano in Anambra, atleast, not NOW.
2. Another
factor that will work in favour of Chief Willie Obiano in this election will be
the issue of Salaries and Pensions. Regardless of how this issue is looked at,
when civil servants and pensioners are paid their entitlements to the later, they
(those directly involved), their family members and extended families would
champion the course of that candidate who has not owed them salaries and pensions
for the period he is in power. This is actually why I feel disturbed that men
like Rochas Okorocha and Yahaya Bello would be allowed entrance into that
campaign venue of the APC in Anambra State.
Willie Obiano is one
governor in Anambra State, who like his predecessor, Peter Obi, has not owed
salaries and pensions since he came in as governor and this is one of the major
reasons Anambarians are in love with him, especially the lower class and with
their votes alone, Willie Obiano is sure of victory in the November 18th
elections.
3. The
Anambra Rice is one huge achievement of the current governor of Anambra State
that simply WOWs you when you see how beautiful that venture is. Yes, is
understandable when there is a popular believe that Anambra is not a primarily
agricultural state, especially when making quick money is concerned with
Anambra youths venturing out into businesses in their bids to break even fast,
but this governor came in and diversified the business of farming and immediately,
Anambra Rice was launched and I have had a taste and can testify to the sweetness
of the rice comparable to only the original Abakalaiki Rice from Ebonyi State. The
governor made it a point of duty also to spread the sharing of the Anambra rice
to all levels of the civil service structure in the state to make sure that
every family in Anambra, both home and abroad, so long as you have one person
who is a government worker, must have a taste of the rice whenever you are home
for either Christmas or Easter celebrations.
Yes, like a man who is never perfect, Willie Obiano have had some
of his issues, especially his fight with his friend and mentor, former governor
Peter Obi, which I think would have been fairly managed if they as adults didn’t
allow it to escalate to the level it is now, I would say that the governor of
Aanambra State has fared well and voting him out to bring someone like either
Yahaya Bello of Kogi State or Rochas Okorocha of Imo State would be detrimental
to the development already started by Peter Obi and had to be continued by
someone who has done pretty well with the initial mandate given to him by his
people.
Desirably, I expect Willie Obiano to win the Anambra Election
and if for any reason he doesn’t, WHICH I DOUBT 100 PERCENT, Anambarians should
sure blame themselves when Imo and Kogi States are being replicated in their
state.
Willie Obiano is my candidate for the November 18th
Governorship Election in Anambra State.
