YAN Accuses Governors Of Sabotaging Buhari’s Effort In Employment, Rates Him 55% Successful.

President Muhammadu Buhari.
The National Speaker, Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN); Rt. hon. Samuel Godstime Chukwubuikem at the African Union Youth summit organised in Abuja told newsmen that President Muhammadu Buhari has made positive contributions in developing and empowering youths across the country through the National Social Investment Programs aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihood of vulnerable groups such as unemployed youths and women but these efforts seem not to have yielded results due to the faulty process in the disbursement of funds by committees and some selfish governors.

Rt. hon. Samuel noted few empowerment and employment programs of President Buhari as follows:
1. N-Power program started with employment of about 200,000 youths which has increased to about 420,000 in 2017 following our records in the Youth Assembly.

2. Ten billion naira Youth Entrepreneurship support (YES) made available by President Muhammadu Buhari through the Bank of industries to empower youths with to start businesses.

3. The Youth Empowerment in Agriculture scheme which is suppose to empower atleast 2,000 youths in each state including FCT Abuja with not less than N1million each for agribusiness purposes but for now (following the records and reports made available to YAN) only the executive Governor of Jigawa state has done justice to the said Agribusiness youth empowerment fund having empowerment about 1,800 youths of Jigawa state with N1million each to boost agribusiness in the state, Imo state Governor gave 305 youths N1million each.

He further said that he believes that President Buhari can do more for the youths in the areas of empowerment saying:
"Nigerian Youths who got no opportunity to be employed or empowered after graduation have legitimate reasons to feel frustrated and angry. If youth empowerment, skill acquisition, youth employment and qualitative education is provided, the ticking bomb of possible youth explosion out of restiveness and anger will subside".

He advised President Buhari to ensure the inclusion of youths in any matter that affects nation building... "It is barbaric to have a 60years old man as Director of Youth Employment in an establishment, it is callous to have a committee for Youth Empowerment and skill acquisition without youths being part of such committee, it’s time to get it right, the President should compel Governors to conduct local government council elections and make subventions available to groups and associations as partners in nation building...the fight against corruption must be holistically spread" YAN speaker expressed.

Report has it that the new secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha has asked the YAN leadership to see him for an interface before they embark on their Youth Development and Good Governance Assessment tour round the 36 states of the federation.
