Chief Tony Okoroji Chairman of COSON. |
The Nigerian Copyright
Commission (NCC) has voided the return of Tony Okoroji as Chairman of the
Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON).
This is contained in a letter
dated February 19, 2018 with reference number NCC/DG/I/66 signed by the
commission’s Director General, Afam Ezekude, obtained by Precious Eze’s Blog on
Wednesday.
The regulatory body added
that it will act within its oversight function to examine the books of COSON
and advise as appropriate.
Chief Okoroji, a former
president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) was
returned as COSON chairman at an extraordinary general meeting held on December
19, 2017, days after he was asked to step aside by the organisation’s management
board.
His return was endorsed by
music veterans like Sir Victor Uwaifo, Sir Shina Peters and Ras Kimono, while
the new and very vibrant musicians stayed away from him for obvious reasons.
What is not clear yet is how
he intends to stay put when the regulatory and supervising government parastatal
has simply asked him to go.
