Chief Tony Okoroji's COSON's Operating License Suspended By NCC.

The letters attached.

There has been for a very long time now, an unending battle between stakeholders in the music industry and those running the affairs of the baby empowered by law to collect royalties for musicians known as Copyright Society of Nigeria, COSON on who has the right to collect royalties and who has the powers to preside over the affairs of royalties collected by COSON, leading to legal battles that has seen claims of removal and counter claims of removal of the supposed, Chairman of COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji.

Latest in the news is that the Nigerian Copyright Commission, the government agency empowered by law to oversee the affairs of both COSON and other agencies under the parastatal has suspended the operating license of COSON, stopping it from collecting royalties on-behalf of and for musicians and other performing artists in Nigeria.

Some of us wonder how long this will take to end even as the leadership of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN led by Pretty Okafor is poised to restructure with time, the COSON of the dream of Musicians in Nigeria.
