Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Incoming governor of Lagos State. |
The
governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos State
have come and gone, but one thing that will remain with us for a very long time
to come is the fact that we now have a new governor who will be sworn in on the
29th of May 2019.
Mr.
Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu who is the governorship candidate of the APC in
Lagos was born on June 25, 1965 in Lagos, attended and graduated from the
University of Lagos, where he studied and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree
in Surveying, after which he proceeded to acquire his Masters Degree from the
same University.
He
enrolled at the Lagos Business School where he acquired his advanced business
training and duly obtained an MBA in Business Administration. He also attended
the Business School in London, where he obtained another MBA.
The
United States’ Kennedy Institute of Government was another place where his keen
interest for quality education took him to, from where he was aptly trained in
the area of government administration and civil responsibilities.
His
working experience started he served in various capacities in three top
commercial banks in Nigeria, namely, First City Monument Bank (formerly known as
First Atlantic Bank), United Bank of Africa (UBA) and Lead Bank PLC.
He
was appointed/promoted to the position of Treasurer at Lead Bank PLC. On this
capacity, Sanwo-Olu was tasked with the prime responsibility of overseeing the
Liquid asset of the bank and was also tasked with the daily management of the
overall funding requirements of the bank.
He
held the post for three years, left in 1997 to join United Bank for Africa, UBA
as Head of Money Market (Foreign), a position that saw him overseeing the
Liquidity and profit enhancement of the bank.
He
left UBA to join First Atlantic Bank PLC (now First City Monument Bank – FCMB)

with top companies in the country, as an expert in Corporate Financing.
After
over a decade of operating as a top banker in the Nigerian banking sector, Mr.

public sector.

served in various capacities in the government of Lagos State, from one
administration to another till he was chosen to be the next governor after the
expiration of that of the incumbent, Akinwunmi Ambode.
