Atiku Abubakar said this while fielding questions from journalists shortly after paying a condolence visit to the family of the late President in Sokoto on Saturday.

Atiku and Abdulsalami after signing the
condolence register, described the late Shagari as one of those who
strengthened Nigeria’s democracy and as such his death has become a national
loss.

Responding
on behalf of the family, Shagari’s eldest son, Bala Shagari says it is
comforting for the family to hear the soothing words of those visiting to
condole with them.

after the visit, further enjoined Nigerians to emulate the late President
Shagari’s virtues.
