HOODLUMS DESTROY ELECTION MATERIALS, VANDALISE CARS BELONGING TO AIDES OF NDDC NDDC By Ayebakuro Igbeta.

Hoodlums visited mayhem on Agbere Community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa today during the general elections, destroying election materials and vandalising vehicles belonging to aides of the Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Prof. Nelson Brambaifa.

                               
Prof. Brambaifa had finished voting, where he restated the importance of a free and fair elections and returned home when the attack began. He was unhurt, but many residents sustained injuries, while security personnel attached to the NDDC boss repelled the youths. 

Only last night, Prof. Brambaifa on arrival at his home town advised the teeming crowd which gathered to receive him on the need for a peaceful and hitchfree elections in the community. "We are all members of this family and I would encourage everyone to ensure that, tomorrow, we conduct a free and fair election that will not put one family against another," he said.

When he voted, alongside his wife, Dr. Anna Brambaifa, atmosphere in and around Agbere town was peaceful and he addressed the press thereafter.

Trouble began as soon as he left the polling station, as youths mobilised to disrupt the electoral  process, attempting  to cart away election materials. It took the timely intervention of security personal in the area to repel the miscreants and avert bloodshed.

They resorted to destruction of ballot papers and vandalised cars, some of which belonged to aides of the NDDC Acting Managing Director.

Prof. Brambaifa expressed dismay, stating that he "is not interested in any tussle for power," adding that his primary concern is the development of the Niger Delta for which he was recently appointed.
