The Governorship
candidate of the Progressives Peoples Allience, PPA in the just concluded
elections in Delta State, Dr. O'diakpo Obire, has advocated for an improved
electoral process to minimize and effectively manage post-election challenges that
bedevil Nigeria after each election cycle.
Obire stated this on
Wednesday in his Goodwill Message at a Public Lecture organized by Maris
Schools, Amachai-Okpanam, on the aegis of Maris Trust Council, Asaba.
The 1st Maris Annual
Lecture with the topic: Managing Post-Election Challenges: Nigeria As A Case
Study, was delivered by Chief Williams I.I. Makinde, FCA, PhD, Managing
Director of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
The event took place at the Conference Hall of the prestigious Orchid Hotels,
along DBS Road, Asaba.
Dr. Obire applauded
the organizers of the event for having the vision and social commitment to
organize such a noble lecture on an important topic that helps to positively
reshape the electoral system, saying he was honoured to have been invited to an
A-class event like this. The honor was taken a notch higher by being
called upon to deliver a Goodwill Message.
"I am a strong
advocate of an improved electoral process, he said, and the strengthening of
our institutions. An improved electoral process is a proactive measure that
helps to minimize and effectively reduce post-election challenges.
"Credible
elections and the rule of law are a sine quanon for democracy to grow and take
root in Nigeria. For credible elections to become a reality, politicians must
learn to value the process of elections more than the product of the
process".
Addressing newsmen immediately
after the event, Obire called on all political actors to pursue common goals to
meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
