EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria’s Image, Supreme Court Of Georgia Conviction Of Femi Gbajabiamila & The Position Of Speaker, Nigeria’s House Of Representatives By Usman Jamilu Rahman.

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
Member, House of Representatives.
Nigeria’s image in the international community is terribly, bad and scary. Stories about Nigeria related from abroad are often about vices, such as corruption, looting, drug trafficking, financial scams, fraudulent deals, crimes, kidnapping, Boko Haram insurgency, militancy in the oil-producing areas, negative politicking, mass hunger, mass illiteracy, and poor hygiene, among others.

Many well meaning Nigerians who travel abroad often times meet with embarrassing situations where they are perceived to be corrupt once they are identified as Nigerians.
Former British Prime Minister, David Cameron took a swipe at Nigeria while having a conversation with the queen Of England and other notable British leaders just ahead of an international Anti-Corruption summit held in London. In a video that went viral across the globe, David Cameron was heard describing Nigeria and Afghanistan as “fantastically corrupt” countries. Flowing from David Cameron’s fantastically corrupt remarks about Nigeria, a renowned CNN correspondent, Nick Robertson described the situation as “embarrassing” for Nigerians. When asked, President Buhari admitted to waiting journalists that Nigeria was indeed corrupt as he made his way to the Anti- Corruption summit.
Many Nigerians are languishing in jails across the world for various embarrassing crimes that continue to dent and pull down the image of the country. Crimes ranging from Financial Crimes, Internet scams, Insurance frauds, Impersonation, forgery, Drug trafficking, love scams, money laundering and many more have earned many Nigerians convictions in many countries of the world.
Notable Nigerians convicted abroad include Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Umaru Dikko, James Ibori, Femi Gbajabiamila, Godwin Opara, Bukola Oriola and many more for Various Crimes and offenses.
Although our focus here, Femi Gbajabiamila, who represents Surulere 1 Federal Constituency and Leader of the house, has managed to keep his conviction under wraps and has since enjoyed the privilege of making laws for the Nigerian people since 2003, it would rub off negatively on the rest of Nigeria if a man convicted for acts described as “willful dishonesty” by the Supreme Court Of Georgia eventually becomes the Speaker of the Nigerian House Of Representatives.
In a statement of grievance filed before the Supreme Court Of Georgia by one Mrs. Hadyyatou Barry, Femi Gbajabiamila acting on information he stumbled on proceeded to impersonate and pose as lawyer to Hadyyatou Barry, signed for and received Insurance claims monies in Cheque for the sum of $25,000 (twenty-five thousand dollars), cashed same into his trustees account, withdrew same and fled to Nigeria in the wake of 2003, leaving the accident victim, Mrs. Hadyyatou Barry who lost one eye, seven teeth, two broken legs in the accident with no money and access to medical treatment, to wallow in complete penury.
Despite frantic attempts by Femi Gbajabiamila over the years and recently, one Hon. Abdulmumuni Jibrin who is alleged to have petitioned the Supreme Of Georgia to seal off the records of proceedings where Femi Gbajabiamila pleaded guilty to acts of willful dishonesty, Nigerians and the world still have access to details of the embarrassing conduct of a man who has become one of Nigeria’s known legislators.
The ascension of a man convicted by the Supreme Court Of Georgia in the United States Of America for alleged impersonation, fraudulently cashing a Cheque and embezzling proceeds of an accident victims insurance claims money to the exalted office of Speaker, Nigerian House Of Representatives will definitely remind the international community and the world at large that Nigeria and Nigerians are fantastically Corrupt.
