The 55th posthumous birthday of former Nigerian footballer, Samuel Okwaraji, has been memorialized today by Google with a doodle.
The tech giants marked the occasion with the special themed display of a doodle celebrating the deceased football star who slumped and died at the age of 25 in the 77th minute of a World Cup qualification match against Angola at the Lagos National Stadium on 12 August 1989.
The cause of his death was later discovered to be congestive heart failure.
Doodles are changes made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists.
Okwaraji who never played for any Nigerian club was also a qualified lawyer who had a masters in international law from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome.
