Ogunlewe & APC Flag. |
One of the latest decampees is former Senator and Minister for Works under the administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Seye Ogunlewe who today, announced his decision to dump the People's Democratic Party, PDP, a party that made him and gave him all the relevance he needed to build his political career in Lagos, the South-West and in Nigeria at large.
The former Minister, whose son, Moyosore Ogunlewe a few weeks back decamped from the family's political party, the PDP, to their former ENEMY-PARTY, the APC, has also joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Their dumping the PDP and joining the APC is not unconnected with the fact that the PDP in Lagos is almost completely dead, with no funding coming from any corner, the need to remain relevant again, as the family and the name was gradually going extint and they needed the Bola Tinubu's magic wand, just as he did for former Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and his son, Ibrahim, the Ogunlewes could not stay irrelevant forever, as it is obvious staying with the PDP in Lagos would mean continuous irrelevance.
According to Senator Ogunlewe: My decision to join the APC is because the PDP in Lagos is rudderless and has been perpetually enmeshed in crisis over the years and i see no future in the PDP anymore and nobody should expect a politician of my standing to stay in a house where leaders are only interested in their selfish interests.
Some of the issues arising from the governorship elections was an eye-opener that exposed the fact that some people in the party were only after money and not the progress of the party in Lagos.
My son is already there, I am expected to join him within the next 30 days, as my son is expecting me to. I am tired of a party running into one problem or the other and I tell you, these people can never change.
The
former minister said that he was also joining APC because he was convinced that
the party would zone the presidency to the South West in 2023, apart from being
a better organised party, so, wouldn’t want to be left out of any arrangement
to give the region the presidency in 2023.
He
said he would be leaving the PDP with his teeming supporters, promising to add
value to the APC.
