Kogi
State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has expressed confident in his victory
irrespective of the form of primaries the All Progressive Congress adopts in
the State ahead of November 16 gubernatorial election.
The
Governor affirmed that he would willingly follow the direction of the Party as
he was not afraid of any form of primaries stating that he was sure that the
Party Stakeholders were on his side.
He
said this while attending the Party’s State Stakeholders meeting at the Party
Secretariat in Lokoja where he expressed that the party leadership had
justified the different positions they occupied as they gave the APC and
excellent outing during the last General and State Assembly Election.
The Governor
reminded the APC Members that the party during the last election achieved an
hundred percent successful and rancour free congresses at all levels because
the party faithful were free to participate democratically and were given the
free will to make their respective choices and stated that the party membership
under his leadership as the Party leader in the State, has increased tremendously
which was a testament that the people trusted his leadership promising not to
disappoint such trust.
However,
the Governor pointed out that any individual who has indicated interest to
contest in the primaries should be free to do so, as the party was an
attractive winning team but assured that none of them could defeat him, asking that
Party Stakeholders should not cast aspersions on such persons as such platform
would allow the party to further increase its large membership base.
Bello
said the State has always preached a message of inclusiveness and oneness notwithstanding
party, ethnic or religious differences stating that anyone who wished to
contest with him at the primaries should not be seen as an enemy.
The
Governor similarly advised that as the State progress into the era of politics,
party members should ensure they maintain decorum and should not be abusive to
any opponent or their supporters and should reply them with facts when they
come out to tell lies.
The
party at the meeting adopted an indirect form of primaries ahead of the
November 16 Guber election.
