Late Mrs. Funke Olakunrin. |
The National Chairman
of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Professor Tunde Adeniran has condemned in
strong terms the brutal murder of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of
Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti in Ondo on Friday by suspected herdsmen.
Adeniran described the
gruesome killing of Fasoranti's daughter as one- death- too-many, describing
the incident as repugnant and unacceptable to the people of Nigeria.
He called on the Federal
Government to intensify action to ensure that the perpetrators of this
dastardly act are brought to justice without delay, reiterated the urgent need
for President Buhari and the security agencies to deploy more resources to
combating the menace of herdsmen and other bandits tormenting Nigerians. He
also called on all Nigerians to be more vigilant in all communities.
He wrote "I
received the news of the killing of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of
Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti with rude shock and sadness. Mrs
Olakunrin who was gruesomely murdered in Kajola near Ore, Ondo State on Friday
was coming from Akure before she met her untimely death in the hands of her
assailants’.
This is one death
too-many. It is a sad day not only for the Afenifere socio-cultural group, but
also for Nigeria. The death of Mrs. Olakunrin has occurred at a time when Pa
Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader is yet to recover from the death of another
daughter which happened not too long ago. What a sad day, what a great loss for
the family and humanity.
I want to use this
medium to condole the family, particularly the aged father Pa Fasoranti, on the
tragic death of their daughter, sister and mother at the age of 58 years. This
is a tragic moment for the family. We pray that God will console the family she
left behind and also grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable
loss", he oncluded.
