The
story of Judith Akatugba is such that would encourage anyone who look upto only
God as his or her source, with patience, perseverance and joy, holding on,
waiting with dignity, for that which is hoped for, in faith for the
manifestation of the yet to be seen miracle.
A
woman of great faith in the one and only true God, an amiable soul, a dedicated
worker and haven seen it all, starting from a humble beginning, is now, not yet
at her destination, but on her way, is totally grateful for the huge
responsibility put on her small shoulders yet again, and is poised to make this
a reference point in the industry.
According
to a statement by Guardian Group, “In furtherance of its restructuring as a
multimedia company for optimal operations, The Guardian Group has hired Ms.
Judith Akatugba as its Commercial Director.
Akatugba
is a professional with cognate experience in media, sales, marketing
communications, advertising, and content production. With the experience she
garnered from working with A-list media organisations and start-ups, Akatugba
is known for her strategic problem-solving proficiency.
She
began her career in media sales & marketing in 2005 as an admin executive
at Point Blank Media Concepts. In the same year, she veered into business
development as it was a natural fit for her passion to optimise assets,
processes and business opportunities and thus grew to become the Assistant
Business Development Manager because of her outstanding sales performance in
selling PBMC’s telenovella assets – Lorenzo’s Wife and most-watched Second
Chance.
Her
passion for start-ups led her to co-found Sportsbrand Ltd with two other
directors. At Sportsbrand, her core focus was on sports content development,
sales, and marketing. She succeeded in helping to build the company’s revenue
from zero to a multi-million naira company in a space of three years.
The
then Continental Broadcasting Service now known as TVC Communications offered
her an opportunity to cross from independent content production into television
and radio broadcast environment as an Assistant Business Development Manager
for the group’s portfolio that includes TVC Entertainment and Radio Continental
now Max FM where she later rose to become the Business Development Manager for
the group due to her outstanding performance of meeting and surpassing her
monthly revenue target consecutively.

In
the course of her service, Akatugba took on the challenge and worked with her team
to turn around the commercial outcomes of these stations. TVC Entertainment
especially grew to become one of the most-watched TV stations in Lagos within a
few years. Her monthly advertising patronage also saw a remarkable increase in
performance.
Impressed
by her results, Akatugba was invited by the management of Consolidated Media
Associates Group owners of ONTV, Soundcity TV & Radio, etc. as a strategic
business manager to pioneer the start of Soundcity Radio with oversight
functions to Soundcity TV. With her guidance and an extensive network, Akatugba
made an immediate impact on the commercial outcomes of Soundcity Radio and got
promoted to become the Group Strategic Business manager for ONTV, Soundcity TV,
Soundcity Radio and all other CMA’s TV stations where she optimised their
combined reach to deliver multimillion naira partnerships and sponsorships.
Akatugba
joined RED Group to deploy her experience in the sale and pitching for PR
Accounts – Red Media Africa, Digital Media sales – Ynaija and Rubbin’ Minds.
She led her team to double the unit’s revenue within a period of six months
before taking on her new position at The Guardian Group in August 2019 as
Commercial Director.
Akatugba
is an alumnus of the Pan Atlantic University where she majored in Marketing
Communications at the school of Media & Communication. She got her
Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Lagos State University and has
attended several management and senior management courses in leadership,
negotiation, strategic planning, communication, team building, and project
management.
She
is a member of the Advertisers Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).
