The
Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area in Lagos
State, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, on Thursday, the 28th of May,
2020, presented the council's year 2020 budget proposal of N2.376,775,389,86 to
the council’s Legislative Arm.
During
the brief presentation ceremony of the budget proposal at the council's
legislative chamber, Princess Bada said the proposed budget christened budget
of "Consolidation On Participatory Planning Process In Achieving Economic
Development" is a product of a wide range of opinions of stakeholders at
the grassroot and is focused on the exact needs of the people. She added that
the expenditure pattern of the budget is tailored in such a way that it will
fast track the realization of the noble objectives of her administration.
Giving
the breakdown of the budget, the Mayoress as she is fondly called said the
proposed 2020 budget is expected to be a balanced budget with the expected
total revenue of the council put at N2.376.775.389.86 and the total expenditure
put at N2.376.775.389.86.
Princess
Bada submitted further that the expected statutory allocation accruable to the council
in 2020, is N2.267.824.154.20 while the expected internally generated revenue
is put at 107,900,000,00.
On
the expenditure side, she said the council is expected to spend N405,926,368,53
on
local government staff salary and N512,400,000,00 on primary schools teachers'
salary.
According
to the contents of the budget proposal, she explained that overhead (operating
expenses will gulp N611,400,000,00, social services expenditure will gulp N138,000,000,00
and Non-Current Assets will gulp N527,551,243,16.
On
sectorial allocations,, infrastructural assets will gulp N110,000,000,00,Works,
Housing and Infrastructure is allocated 27,200,000,00. Agriculture, Rural and
Social Development N97,000,000,00, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation N34,000000,00,
Education-N30,000,000,00, Environmental, Sanitation and Waste Management N7,500,000,00
and Primary Health Care N24,700,000,00.
The
Executive Chairman assured the people that her administration would focus on
rehabilitation of roads across the seven wards of the council, noting that five
roads have already been rehabilitated within 100 days in office of her
administration. She also promised that special focus will be given to
development of primary education and effort will be geared towards improving
the standard of primary health care services to the people, not leaving out
provision of improved environmental and waste management services.
Princess
Bada added that her administration's policy thrust of empowering the aged and
widows initiative will be sustained, with special attention given to youth
development.
She
reiterated her administration's determination to complete the ongoing multi
million naira ultra modern office complex located at the council secretariat in
fulfillment of the desire of her predecessor, late Engr. Abdul Fatai Oyesanya
who started the project.
The
council helmsman expressed her profound gratitude to members of the legislative
arm for their cherished cooperation which in no small measure has translated to
better service delivery for the people of the council. She appealed to them to
continue in that direction by giving speedy attention and approval to the
proposed budget.
In
his response after receiving copies of the budget proposal, the Leader of the
Legislative Arm, Hon Akanni Ajibola Usman commended the Mayoress for rendering
selfless service to the people of Ikosi-Isheri since her assumption of office
late January. He specifically commended her for the provision of various
palliatives to the people during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
While
urging her to intensify efforts to do more for the people, he assured her that
he and his colleagues would critically examine the submitted budget proposal
and do everything within their power to give it a speedy approval in the
overall interest of the people.
The
budget presentation ceremony was devoid
of the usual jamboree associated with it because of the social distancing rules
but was witnessed by few people including the Vice Chairman of the council, Alhaji
Mukail Adisa, the Secretary to the Local Government, Engr. Dolapo Bashir,
Supervisors, the Council Manager, Prince Olujobi Sunday Adegbola and management
staff.
