Nollywood’s number 1 actor, Genevieve Nnaji has been
selected as one of the members of the 2020 class of the academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences.
In a statement released on Tuesday, The Academy has
invited a total number of 819 artists and executives who have done well by
their contributions to the motion picture industry across the world.
Another Nigerian on the list is Akin Omotosho and as
the Academy stated, if the 819 members accept the invites, agent members of the
2020 class will be allowed voting privileges at the upcoming Oscars.
This will not be the first time Nigerian filmmakers
are making the Academy list. In 2018, a few Nigerians like Omotola
Kalade-Ekeinde, Femi Odugbemi were amongst artists from Nigeria who determines
the winners of the Oscars in 2019.
Responding, Genevieve Nnaji took to her twitter handle
to accept her invite and said “I’m honoured to be a member of the family. Thank
you.
The 93rd edition of the Academy Awards,
known as Oscar Award will take place on the 25th of April 2021,
while the nomination will be announced on March 15, 2021.
