IKOSI-ISHERI COUNCIL CHAIRMAN CHARGES MOTHERS TO MAKE THE WELL-BEING OF THEIR CHILDREN A TOP PRIORITY.

The Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada has charged mothers in the council area to make the general well-being of their children, particularly their state of health, their top priority. 

The council chairman, popularly called Mayoress gave the charge while delivering her keynote address at the council secretariat, on Monday,5th October 2020, during the flag off of the Martemal, Neo-Natal, Child and Adolescent Health Week.

Princess Bada stated that the importance of providing good health care for children cannot be overemphasized, because they are the future leaders of the nation and tomorrow of their parents, and for this reason, government and parents alike, particularly, mothers must pay adequate attention to their health condition.

She added that the introduction of the annual Maternal and Child Health Week programme by Lagos State Government is a commendable effort that must be totally embraced by all mothers, for the benefit of themselves and that of their children.

The council mayoress further appealed to mothers to ensure they take their children from age 0 to 59 months to primary health centres established by government and not quack medical practitioners for medical care.

She reminded mothers that healthy children will give them happiness and contribute to their rapid educational growth, and as such, they should seize the opportunity provided by government, through the week long programme to get free good medical services for the children and themselves, particularly during this Covid-19 pandemic period, to ward off ailments that can deter their healthy growth.

She reminded them that the flagship primary health center at the council secretariat runs 24 hours services, seven days of the week, including public holidays, where mothers and their children are attended to professionally.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Medical Officer Of Health of the Council, Dr. Owoyele Wasiu listed the services to enjoy by children,mothers, pregnant women and adolescents, during the one week health programme to include, Immunizations, Vitamin A Supplementation, Malnutrition Screening, Deworming and Growth Monitoring. Others are, Ante-natal and Post Natal Clinic, Family Planning, HIV Testing and Counseling, Adolescent Counseling and Malaria Prevention. He enjoined nursing mothers to give their children adequate breast feeding for at least the first six months exclusively and maximum of twelve months.

The highpoint of the programme was the symbolic administration of polio vaccine on some babies by the Mayoress and presentation of gifts to three babies and their mothers, for attending clinic regularly and as at when due,and for being the best breast-fed babies.

Dignitaries who attended the programme were, the Vice Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Alhaji Mukail Adisa, Chairperson of the council, Mrs Muyibat Balogun, Leader of the council's Legislative Arm, Hon. Akanni Ajibola Usman, his Deputy, Hon. Folashade Akinpelu, Majority Leader, Hon.Yinusa Salami, all Supervisors, Heads of Departments and Units and Mothers and their children.
