The Imo North Senatorial election that occurred on December 5, 2020 is likely to produce a winner soon going by the recent judgment of the supreme court that was done earlier today.
This publication exclusively gathered that the candidates of the APC, Ifeanyi Ararume and Frank Ibezim were not favoured with the latest judgment that was done today.
On Ararume’s case, it would be recalled that some weeks ago, a federal high court made a judgment that He should be given the certificate of return within 72 hours, but this was immediately stopped by another court judgment. It was finally addressed today, and the Supreme court quashed the judgment that asked INEC to give him the certificate of return.
For Frank Ibezim who has issues with the certificates he submitted to the INEC before the election, it was also gathered that he requested that another certificate be submitted but was declined by the court. The final judgment was later adjourned till Friday, 16th Of April, 2021.
With these two judgment, it seems the people of Okigwe Zone are about to finally get a representative at the national assembly and if these judgments are anything to go by, the PDP Candidate, Emmanuel Okewulonu is the one who will be given certificate of return on Friday.
On the other hand, the election tribunal also sat today and final judgment is
expected to be given by next week. The issue being battled here is if the APC
had any candidate as at the time the election held, and the answer is No
because two different court judgments sacked the candidates of the APC, Frank
Ibezim and Ifeanyi Ararume 24 hours before the election because they were not
eligible to contest, hence, the Tribunal will still confirm Chief Emmanuel
Okewulonu as the winner of the election.
