The First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has announced the deactivation of her Twitter account, following the ban on the microblogging site by the Nigerian government.
In a statement on Friday, Nigeria’s Information Minister, Lai Mohammed announced the suspension, citing persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence as a reason for the suspension, but in what appears as solidarity with the government, the wife of the president tweeted late night on Friday that she was deleting her account.
“I would be deactivating my Twitter account for now. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she tweeted.
Aisha
Buhari joined Twitter on February 2016 and has over one million followers, she has
been active on social media, promoting her activities and at times criticizing
government policies.
