ORIADE COUNCIL CHAIR, RESIDENTS COMMEND LAGOS STATE GOV., SANWO-OLU FOR AWARDING THE CONTRACT FOR REHABILITATION OF MUMUNI ADIO AND NAVY TOWN ROADS.

The Executive Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ramotalai Akinlola Hassan and a large number of residents  in the council area have commended  the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for giving approval for the rehabilitation and upgrading of Mumuni Adio and Navy Town (section 1) roads in the council area.

They gave the commendation during the Stakeholders' Meeting on the rehabilitation of the two roads, held at the council Secretariat on Monday, 15th June, 2021.

Giving her remark at the well attended meeting, Hon. Ramotalai Hassan expressed her appreciation and that of the people of the council to Governor Sanwo-Olu for acceding to their cries over the age-long deplorable condition of the two roads, particularly Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa) road otherwise called Ijegun-Egba road.

The council chairman also expressed her appreciation to the Hon Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako and the Special Adviser to Gov Sanwo-Olu on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye for their unrelenting efforts in ensuring that the rehabilitation of the two roads becomes a reality.

"While expressing our sincere  appreciation to the Hon Commissioner and the Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure for the award of contact for rehabilitation of the two roads, I am sure that, they and their entourage experienced the pain and agony our people go through everyday while plying the roads", the council chairman submitted.

Like Oliver Twist, Hon. Ramotalai Hassan begged Engr. Adeyoye to give serious consideration to the rehabilitation of old Ojo road because of its importance to road users in the council area.

Earlier in his own remark, the chairman of Community Development Committee (CDC) in the council area, Comrade Okunola Victor Oluwafemi while commending Gov Sanwo-Olu for coming to their rescue with the award of contract for the rehabilitation of the two roads, stated that prior to this positive development, many of the community leaders and residents alike have lost hope that the two important roads will be rehabilitated during their lifetime.

While delivering the brief about the project, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. R.I. Thomas disclosed that the contract for the rehabilitation of the two roads was awarded last month, May, to two competent road construction companies.

The Permanent Secretary stated further that the duration for completion of the two roads is fifteen months, adding that some of the facilities that will be provided alongside the two roads are street lights, bus shelters, and pedestrian walkway.

Engr. Thomas urged residents living where the two roads are situated to be ready to make sacrifices in order to ensure that the roads are of high standard when completed, reminding them about the popular saying," there is no gain without pain".

The Permanent Secretary highlighted some of the advantages that would be derived from the roads project to include, creation of employment opportunities for the teeming youths in the council area, reduction of travel time spent on the road by motorists and the boosting of the socio-economic status of the affected areas.

In his brief remark at the meeting, the Special Adviser to Gov Sanwo-Olu on Urban Development, Hon. Ganiyu Ayuba congratulated Lagosians for having Governor Sanwo-Olu at the helms of affairs in Lagos, adding that the Governor is passionately committed to the growth and development of the state and he is also compassionate about the welfare of the people.

He stated further that in the past few months, there is no week that the Governor will not commission one project or the other in all parts of the state and across all sectors of the economy.

The special adviser added that the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of Gov Sanwo-Olu's administration is the driving force behind his landmark achievements. 

He appealed to the people to continue to support the present administration in the state, by paying their rates, levies and taxes as at when due, to enable them enjoy more dividend of democracy.

In her own remark, the Special Adviser to Gov Sanwo-Olu, on Works and Infrastructure, Engr Adeyoye appealed to residents of the affected roads to cooperate maximally with the contractors handling the two roads project, while urging them not to hesitate to report any one who wants to saboteur the good intentions of the Lagos State Government, In that direction, she urged all stakeholders to take ownership of the roads when completed. She assured the people that their request for rehabilitation of Old Ojo road will be given favourable consideration in no distant future.

The Hon. Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako , while delivering his keynote address at the occasion stated that the present administration in the state, led by Governor Sanwo-Olu is totally committed to the well being of Lagosians in all aspects of their life.

He added that the Governor's love for the people, formed the basis for introduction of the stakeholders' meeting, to enable government feel the purse of the people as regards projects to be sited in their localities.

Some of the stakeholders in attendance at the meeting were allowed to make contributions and ask questions on the roads project.

In attendance at the stakeholders' meeting were members of council's Executive Committee, Leader of the council's Legislative Arm, Hon Kasali Jamiu Abiodun, traditional rulers, the All Progressive Congress (APC)  apex leader in Oriade Council, Prince Sekoni Adio Saliu,APC  chieftains, Pa Olaewe and Chief Mrs. Funmi Bakare. 

Others were, the Iyaloja General of Oriade LCDA, Alhaja Tawakalitu Balogun, chairmen and secretaries of various community development associations, religious leaders, youth groups and members of the Council's  Management Team, led by the Council Manager, Engr. Akitoye Semiu
