Orji Uzor-Kalu & Okezie Ikpeazu. |
There are some speculations in the political terrain in Abia State about the very cordial relationship between the former Governor of the state, now Senator, Orji Uzor-Kalu and the incumbent, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as the two were seen together when the former paid a courtesy call on the incumbent in his country home during the festive period.
Orji Uzor-Kalu who is the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state and the representative of Abia North in the Senate isn’t a child to play with politically either in the state and at the national level, then one would wonder how what is going on between him and the governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu.
It is either the two are hatching some political moves that would take Abia State by storm, or the Governor is planning to join the APC as being requested by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan when he visited the state.
You
would recall that the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan during the
commissioning of the Eyimba Automated Shoe Company, located at Obikabia in Obingwa
Local Government Area, had while eulogizing the governor’s efforts at improving
Abis State, asked him to join the progressives.
In the words of the
Senate President, “You are a shining example of a Nigerian that is pan-Nigerian
that believes in coming together with everyone to ensure that the lives of the
people they govern are improved and I want to commend you for that.
But the Governor,
Okezie Ikpeazu was quick to dispel the notion and saying that, “I
don’t have any plans of joining the APC. I have tremendous respect for the
Senate President whom I consider to be a solid democrat and a decent gentleman,
whose visit to Abia State is very special to us and I must state that his
appeal to me to join the All Progressives Congress is expected from a
politician of his standing”.
“The truth is that I
am a Bishop in the PDP with a large Cathedral and followership. As a matter of
fact, I want to see how I can convince the Senate President to join me in the
PDP, instead of me joining him in the APC”, the Governor concluded.
So, the people of
Abia State are asking questions about the relationship between them and what
this relation may portend for the state in 2023, especially when the Governor
would retire as governor in the same year.
The
former Governor, Orji Uzoe-Kalu was in Umuobiakwa, the country home of Gov. Okezie
Ikpeazu on a courtesy visit.
