The Government of Imo State on Friday, the 3rd of June 2022, secured a restraining order against financial institutions housing the state government funds from paying out or transferring any funds from the Accounts of Government of Imo State, including that of the Federal Accounts and Allocation Committee Account of the Imo State Government or any other fund housing the salaries of workers, pensions and gratuities of retired workers in Imo State in any Imo state Government.
This was against the Garnishee Ordered secured at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Owerri by the former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere who was deputy to Rochas Okorocha during his reign as governor of the state.
Madumere had approached the court demanding the state
government to pay all his entitlements to the tune of #1.9bn.
The judgement made security officers in the early hours of Thursday to seal all
branches of Zenith Bank in Owerri the Imo State capital for failing to carry
out court directive within the stipulated time.
The situation prevented Zenith Bank customers in Owerri
to have access into the banking hall and as well not being able to use the Automated
Teller Machines (ATM).
The restraining order from the state High Court listed Zenith Bank, Access
Bank, United Bank for Africa, Union Bank, First Bank, Rt. Hon. Jonas
Onwuegbuchulam Okeke, Eze Matthew Oweni and Prof. Obioma Iheduru as Defendants
in the suit.
