Human Immune Virus (HIV) is said to be a viral infection that can be passed from one person to another through engagement in intercourse, sharing of sharp objects, and coming in contact with infected bodily fluids.
The
effect of this virus on the body according to research, can be reduced through
the intake of antiretroviral therapy, as the same research says that about 1 in
5 people who were at a healthy weight when they were detected to have HIV get
overweight within 3 years after taking these drugs.
Scientists
are unsure, as at now of the reason HIV medications result in weight gain, but one
possible reason is that the medications work, meaning that when you have HIV,
your body frequently burns calories fighting infections, with the
Antiretroviral therapy preventing you from getting infections.
HIV
treatment also assists you to keep your appetite. And it assists your body to
absorb more of the nutrients from the foods you consume.
The
lifestyle as well impacts the weight. A high-calorie, high-fat diet and too
little exercise could make you gain more weight while you are undergoing
treatment.
