The Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN ably led by her national president, Emeka Rollas Ejezie, has asked members of the association to vote their members and fellow actors who are contesting for various positions in the forthcoming elections across Nigeria.
In a press release made available to “Precious Eze’s Blog” and signed by the Director of Communications of the AGN, Kate Henshaw, the AGN says, though the association is apolitical, individual members have the right to participate and campaign for candidates running for various political offices across the country.
These individuals are, the Chairman of the board of Patrons of
AGN, Hon. Ned Nwoko, who is contesting for the Senate from the Delta North
Senatorial District under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,
Funke Akindele for the office of Deputy Governor of Lagos State on the platform
of the PDP too, Femi Branch, contesting for Deputy Governor in Ogun State on
the platform of the National Rescue
Movement Party.
Others are,
Veteran actor, Hilda Dokubo of the Labour Party, for the House of Representatives in Asalga/Akulga
Federal Constituency in Rivers State, Tonto Dike who is the Deputy Governorship
candidate in Rivers State for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Caroline
Ekanem of the African Action Congress AAC in Akwa Ibom State as Deputy Governorship
candidate.
Mr. Emeka Rollas
Ejezie spoke through the release about the member of the Lagos State House of
Assembly, seeking reelection on the platform of the All Progressives Congress,
APC, for Surulere constituency 1, Hon. Desmond Eliot, urging
AGN members to vote massively for members irrespective of their interest in
political parties for the overall interest of Nollywood, stressing that if we
have our members in strategic positions in Government, they will help move
motions and pass enabling laws that would help our industry become more
profitable.
According to him, it has become imperative to vote
our members into power to further help the growth and development of Nollywood,
as the Actors Guild of Nigeria has members in all the states of the Federation,
including Abuja with satellite chapters in major cities and local government
areas in Nigeria.
