NDLEA versus PMAN: Partnership To End Drug Abuse In The Music Industry In Nigeria.

Pretty Okafor & Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa.

A new partnership in the entertainment industry is brewing between the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN that seeks to, if not eliminate completely, but bring to its barest minimum, the scourge of abuse of substances by not only the up and coming, but the very huge and highly rated musicians in the music industry.
The NDLEA during the week under review, from the office of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) who led members of his management team on a working visit to the Headquarters of PMAN and was received by the National President, Dr. Pretty Okafor, under whose tenue PMAN had witnessed tremendous growth, one that has not been witnessed in the last 40yrs of the existence of PMAN.

The very elated Marwa congratulated the leadership on ground in PMAN for the evidently quality leadership especially in what he could see like the Music House (housing the PMAN Head Office), the PMAN FM both in Lagos and in Abuja and said with the progress made, there is need for the PMAN to partner with the NDLEA in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, especially amongst her primary constituency, the Musicians urging the president, Pretty Okafor and other executives to mobilise their members to use their God-given talents for the good of the society rather than using their music to promote drug abuse especially among the youths.

He went on to say that as a young man himself, he associated himself with music, especially PMAN activities and can proudly say that the leadership has done enough to earn this partnership with NDLEA in the fight against drug and substance abuse in the society. he said the drug scourge in Nigeria has reached the proportion that is unacceptable to the Government, hence this sought after partnership with one of the organizations that would bring the desired change and that is PMAN.

PMAN National President, Dr. Pretty Okafor in his response expressed the preparedness of PMAN to partner with the Agency, giving details of their effort to organise advocacy campaign against drug abuse across the country and their plan to build rehabilitation centres as part of their ongoing projects in Abuja and Lagos.

According to him, this partnership is preparedness meeting with opportunity as PMAN has always been ready for this with our desire to change the narrative in the music industry from the end of PMAN and in the last three years, PMAN had been ready for this as we, inhouse had started putting pen to paper and here we are today partnering with an agency like NDLEA to end both drug abuse and its use.

So, PMAN is ready for this and with NDLEA, we would completely disabuse the minds of young stars from the use of drugs.
