The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has handed over control of monitoring the Enugu electricity market to the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC), and henceforth be run by the state government starting May 1, 2024.
This is the first time, according to findings that
regulatory powers have been shifted from the NERC to a state government
electricity regulator.
This shift means that there is something the NERC saw
that the state government is doing right under Governor Peter Mbah that would
make them give him this responsibility which had never been given to a state government
before and the people of the state expect that he makes use of this opportunity
to demystify the distribution of electricity in Enugu State.
